How to do the nude nail trend for Spring/Summer 2014

Spring might not be with us just yet, but nude and natural nails, tipped to be one of SS14's biggest beauty trends, have already crept their way in.

Seen all over the runways at London Fashion Week and on the fingers of celebs including Jessie J and Millie Mackintosh, here's how to perfect the fresh alternative to summer's bold brights.

Prep your nails

A nude manicure that's all cracked and lumpy isn't going to look chic or natural. So make sure you prep your nails by filing, buffing, pushing back your cuticles and applying base coat.

Match your skin tone

Though we normally think of nudes being creamy shades of beige, you should opt for colours that most closely match your skin tone. A nude polish that suits Beyonce for example, probably wouldn't be right for Angelina Jolie.

Layer up

If you can't find the perfect nude for you, try layering a sheer pink or peach over a more earthy taupe. Layering is also a great trick if you don't like your polishes too sheer when dry.

Finish with top coat

Not only will top coat help your polish last longer, it'll add a high gloss finish that's essential to nailing the luxe feminine vibe of the season.
