Chelsea v Bayern Munich

Chelsea and Bayern Munich will lock horns on Wednesday to contest the 2013 Super Cup, which pits the two European champions against one another.

Bayern were crowned Champions League winners last term, completing an historic treble, while the Blues marched on to the Europa League title, having won the European Cup the previous season.

Both sides had, however, achieved those successes with different managers to the ones presently in charge, with Jose Mourinho having succeeded Rafael Benitez at Stamford Bridge while Pep Guardiola has taken over from Jupp Heynckes for the Bavarians.

The two footballing giants will now square up on Wednesday, with both heading into the tie on the back of opening day victories in their respective leagues, with Guardiola's men seeing off Eintracht 1-0, while their midweek opponents dispatched Premier League newcomers Hull City 2-0 in west London.

On the team front, Mourinho could be tempted to hand debut starts to Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle, with the pair both having made their first competitive apperances off the bench against the Tigers, while Romelu Lukaku will also be pushing for a starting role, having also been used as a substitute.

Juan Mata is unlikely to be risked after sitting out the opening day win with injury, while Mark Schwarzer may get his debut in goal, having joined the capital outfit as back-up to Petr Cech, who started the campaign with a clean sheet.

For Bayern, Mario Gotze will be hoping to make his official debut after having been an unused substitute in their opening-day win over Eintracht, while Thiago Alcantara will be looking for a first start, having come off the bench in that match, which was settled by Mario Mandzukic's lone strike.
