A two-year-old boy was hacked to death allegedly by his stepfather in Jouberton near Klerksdorp, North West police said on Sunday.
Warrant Officer Sam Tselanyane said the body of the child was found in a plastic bucket on Saturday.
"The tiny body sustained serious head injuries and a fractured skull."
He said the boy's mother and her 25-year-old boyfriend had a fight at a tavern on Friday night. They left the tavern and the woman went her neighbour's house.
The man attacked her again and she fled to her grandmother's place.
"The child was all the time with him... on Saturday when asked [about] the whereabouts of the child he said he was in a bucket inside the toilet."
Tselanyane said the child was certified dead on the scene.
"The suspect was arrested and will be charged with murder. He is expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates' Court on Monday."
