Thousands of Egyptian demonstrators angered by a film deemed offensive to Islam tore down the US flag during a protest at the embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, witnesses told AFP.
"At least four of them climbed over the embassy walls and tore down the American flag," a witness said, adding that the demonstrators were angered by a film produced by expatriate members of Egypt's Christian minority resident in the United States.
The demonstrators raised black flags inscribed with the Muslim profession of belief: "There is no God but God and Mohammed is the prophet of God."
