President Francois Bozize of the Central African Republic flew Monday to the Republic of Congo for talks with President Denis Sassou Nguesso who will mediate peace talks between Bangui and a rebel force, an AFP journalist said.
Bozize "should return in the afternoon" after consulting his Congolese counterpart, a government source said.
Sassou Nguesso will mediate in Gabon's capital Libreville between the Central African government and a rebel coalition, Seleka, which began fighting on December 10 and took a string of towns.
